Reaction Principle

Carbon disulfide is oxidized by nascent oxygen, which is generated by the reaction of chromic acid and sulfuric acid to sulfur dioxide. Sulfur dioxide neutralizes barium chloride, discoloring pH indicator to yellow.

CS2 + CrO3 + H2S2O7 SO2 + CO2
SO2 + BaCl2 + H2O BaSO3+ 2HCl
HCl + Base Chlorides

Coefficient of Variation 10% (for 2.5 to 10 ppm), 5% (for 10 to 50 ppm)
